RIYADH (Reuters) – A Saudi Arabian judge has upheld a sentence of a month in prison and 50 lashes for a businesswoman convicted of insulting members of the morality police during an argument, the local al-Medina newspaper reported on Sunday.
Incidents of heavy-handed behavior by the morality police have come under growing criticism on social media from inside the kingdom in recent years, straining relations between Saudi citizens and the official body.
The appeals court in Mecca upheld the sentence, passed by a district court in Jeddah, after the woman was found guilty of “cursing the morality police” and calling them “liars”, the Arabic-language daily reported.

“The world’s most pierced man, Rolf Buchholz, has been denied entry into Dubai after he was due to make an appearance at a hotel nightclub. The 53-year-old German has 453 piercings on his body and face, as well as two horn implants on his forehead.
Mr Buchholz told the BBC that airport staff said they feared he may be practising “black magic”.
The computer expert was recognised by the Guinness Book of Records in 2012 as the world’s most pierced man. Mr Buchholz told the Associated Press news agency that he was initially allowed through immigration, but was later stopped prior to customs and put on a flight to Istanbul.
As a result, his scheduled appearance at the Cirque le Soir nightclub in Dubai’s Fairmont Hotel on Friday was cancelled. The club said in a statement on Sunday that it had done its best to get Mr Buchholz into the country but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The gunmen seized a vehicle carrying the money and documents, later releasing the driver and two others. The convoy was said to have come from the Saudi embassy. No-one was hurt.

The motorcade, belonging to a Saudi prince, was targeted by eight people in two separate vehicles who pointed their guns at the driver of the Mercedes, forcing him to stop, French media reported.
The men then drove the vehicle away with the driver and the two other Saudis inside. No shots were fired but the Saudis were later freed and the vehicle eventually found burned out.

It also cited a confidential 2009 BND document listing Turkey as a target for German intelligence gathering.
“If there is the slightest element of truth in the allegations, it would constitute a serious situation that would need to be explained by Germany,” the ministry said. “Such practices would in no way be acceptable in an environment requires mutual trust and respect between friends and allies.”
Germany has complained for months about alleged American spy activity in Germany. Last year German media reports based on documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden prompted a sharp rebuke from Chancellor Angela Merkel. The U.S. has declined to comment about the latest Der Spiegel report.

As they approached, the gunmen, who were inside the car, opened fire, killing one policeman and seriously wounding the other, said the official.

#2 Egypt police say they arrested 13 of a new alleged Cairo militant group
Security officials said Wednesday they have arrested 13 members of a new alleged armed group that threatened attacks against police in south Cairo, Al-Ahram’s Arabic news website reported.
Prosecution is currently investigating those arrested, who are believed to belong to “Kataeb Helwan,” Arabic for “Helwan Brigades,” officials told Al-Ahram. Helwan is a southern suburb of the capital.
The alleged, self-proclaimed militia appeared in a video, published and circulated on social media networks, where they vowed to target all police facilities in south Cairo.
The video, including a group of 12 men wearing masks, holding rifles and some waving the four-fingered sign associated with the forceful dispersal of the pro-Mohamed Morsi Rabaa Al-Adawyia camp in 2013, was reportedly released Thursday, on the first anniversary of the Rabaa dispersal.
Interior minister Mohamed Ibrahim stated that police will investigate the video and ordered the arrest of those involved.
Since Morsi’s ouster last summer, a wave of militant attacks have swept the country. Assaults have primarily targeted security forces and have been claimed by a radical Islamist militia known as Ansar Beit El-Maqdis. Smaller attacks were claimed by another group called Ajnad Misr.
In prior videos released by Ansar Beit El-Maqdis and Ajnad Misr, the attacks are described as revenge for the violent crackdown against Morsi supporters that left hundreds killed and thousands in jail.
