4. Western Sex Slaves for ISIS: The Twisted Psychology of Jihad Brides

The most barbaric bunch of blood-thirsty misogynists this side of Genghis Khan are yearning for western “brides”—and the “brides,” who will be no more than sex and reproductive slaves, are coming, via an internet campaign, to service ISIS’s male Jihadis in the Caliphate in formation in Syria and Iraq. There is a “marriage bureau” in the northern Syrian town of Al Bab for Western women in a marrying state of mind.

Britain’s interior minister Theresa May warned that “we think around 400 UK-linked individuals have gone out to fight in Syria, mainly young men but also some women.” Officials worry that these numbers will rise “with the increased online activity luring vulnerable women to Syria.” The would-be “brides” are given point-by-point guidance on what to expect.”

What is coming their way is far darker than Fifty Shades of Grey.

  1. Ebola outbreak: Kenya at high risk, warns WHO (BBC, Aug 13, 2014)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-28769678

“The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified Kenya as a “high-risk” country for the spread of the deadly Ebola virus. Kenya was vulnerable because it was a major transport hub, with many flights from West Africa, a WHO official said.

This is the most serious warning to date by the WHO that Ebola could spread to East Africa. The number of people killed by Ebola in West Africa has risen to 1,069, the WHO said in its latest update.

Fifty-six deaths and 128 new cases were reported in the region in the two days to 11 August, it added…”

Pakistan braces for day of protest led by Tahirul Qadri and Imran Khan (BBC, Aug 13, 2014)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-28770311

“Pakistan is bracing itself ahead of Thursday’s anti-government protests, with thousands of security personnel deployed and roadblocks set up. The march was called by opposition politician Imran Khan who wants PM Nawaz Sharif to resign for failing to probe fraud in last year’s polls.

Anti-government cleric Tahirul Qadri also called on supporters to rally, leading to fears of clashes. The government accuses the protesters of trying to derail democracy.

But it also announced a Supreme Court commission to investigate allegations of rigging in the 2013 poll.

This was dismissed by Imran Khan, who vowed to press ahead with the march from Lahore to Islamabad saying that only Mr Sharif’s resignation would stop the rally now.

Tens of thousands of security personnel have been deployed in the capital Islamabad and in cities across Punjab province. Roadblocks have also been placed on all major entry and exit points to the cities. The mobile phone network has also been partially suspended…”

  3. Spain sees surge of migrants by sea from Morocco (BBC, Aug 13, 2014)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28770346

“More than 1,200 migrants have entered Spain illegally by sea over two days amid Spanish denials that Morocco failed to carry out patrols. The interior ministry said the wave of migrants was the result of increased defences at the borders of two Spanish territories in North Africa.

More sub-Saharan migrants were now trying to reach Spain by boat, a Spanish spokesman told BBC News.

Co-operation between the two countries over migration remained good, he added.

Good weather conditions over the past two days have also been a factor, the BBC’s Tom Burridge reports from Madrid.

It is believed to be one of the largest number of migrants to reach the country in such a short period of time, our correspondent says…”

  4. Kurdish Forces Say They Urgently Need More Weapons (abcnews, Aug 13, 2014)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/kurdish-forces-urgently-weapons-24968408

“The Kurdish commander stared down a road shimmering in the heat, then gestured to where the Islamic militants were deployed, plotting their next advance on this dusty Iraqi frontier town.

There was very little his Kurdish fighters could do about it.

“They have better weapons,” Lt. Col. Saadi Soruchi said of the insurgents. “American weapons.”

The Kurdish forces trying to defend frontline towns like Makhmour in their autonomous region of northern Iraq have felt the brunt of the Islamic extremist fighters’ attacks and know how ferocious they are. The militants are bristling with American weapons and armored Humvees looted from Iraqi arsenals, giving them a powerful edge.

After Washington’s promises to arm them, the Kurds say they badly need heavier weapons from the United States to stem the expansion of the Islamic State group….”

  5. UN Says Iraq Humanitarian Crisis at Highest Level (abcnews, Aug 13, 2014)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/iraq-humanitarian-crisis-highest-level-24967762

“The United Nations on Wednesday announced its highest level of emergency for the humanitarian crisis in Iraq, where hundreds of thousands have been driven from their homes and tens of thousands had been trapped on a desert mountain by the advance of Islamic militants across the north of the country.

But after a U.S. Army Special Forces team was flown atop Sinjar Mountain to assess the situation Wednesday, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told reporters that far fewer refugees were stranded and it was far less likely the U.S. would undertake a rescue mission. Hagel said airdrops of food and water had sustained the refugees and that airstrikes on Islamic State group militants had allowed many to escape…”

  7. NJ man says ISIS flag flown on porch a misunderstanding

A 44-year-old Muslim convert says it was news to him that the flag he hung outside his house is the same banner waved by the murderous jihadist group known as Islamic State.

Neighbors and passersby who took to Twitter were alarmed at the black flag emblazoned with the Arabic words “The only god is Allah” flying from above the porch of Mark Dunaway, in Garwood, N.J. The chilling banner flew next to a red flag of Islam, but Dunaway said he never intended to show support for the terrorist group infamous for beheading Christians.

“I hang it every Friday and every Ramadan which ended not too long ago and I keep it up a little longer than I normally do,” Dunaway told FoxNews.com. “I guess some people saw it and got offended so I took it down. I do not support any militant group or anything like that.”

[…]“This is nuts to me,” Dunaway said to FoxNews.com. “It was not my intention to offend anybody. This is not new. I’ve been doing this for ten years.

Dunaway said he had never even heard of Islamic State until this week.

“I try not to watch that stuff,” Dunaway said. “I try not to get involved. I had no idea. This is just some that is part of my regular routine that I hang up.”

[…]He also said that he will not display the flag as long as the Islamic State is in the news and continues their terror offensive across Iraq, but that he hopes to let the flag fly again…in due time.

“I hope they [the Islamic State] goes away real soon,” he said. “I hope I can display my flag again with no problem.”
