Members of the Armed Forces were on high alert last night after being told police and senior officers fear an Islamist extremist may be plotting another “Lee Rigby-syle” attack.
A warning notice sent out to troops – and leaked to the Mirror – in the West Midlands names and photographs a man who converted to Islam whilst behind bars.
The warning came with a mugshot picture of the convicted crook and told troops that the potential terrorist is now wearing a beard.

Q. Would the UK armed services send out this notice if it was their government that was the target?…. A. Islamists don’t attack those furthering their cause.
The way the Moslems do it isn’t as bad as the way the Nazi’s did it, they use piano wire and would let the victim down several times to prolong the agony. The films of these were Hitlers favorite movies.
I’d call it a toss-up myself…

French court convicts 9 Muslims in Afghan terror network
PARIS (AP) – A Paris court on Friday convicted nine Muslims of belonging to a terrorist network that trained in Afghanistan and reportedly planned attacks in France.
The 15-day trial underscored the concerns of French and other European officials over European Muslims returning from war zones in Syria – which has attracted more would-be jihadis than Afghanistan.
The court handed down sentences ranging from two to nine years in prison. Three of the defendants were tried in absentia, including Touhami Tebourski, who is in custody in Turkey awaiting extradition to France, and was sentenced to nine years. Two others are at large.
Tebourski is one of four defendants that the prosecution said spent time in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border zone, a haven for al-Qaida and Taliban militia fighters. Two of the four – one arrested in Bulgaria, the other in Italy – were given eight-year prison terms.
All denied they were fighters or had planned an attack.
The court ruled the group had “varying commitments” to a “perfectly organized” network but said there was no “clearly defined” project for attack.
The prosecutor had sought the maximum 10-year sentence. Both the prosecution and the defendants can appeal the verdict.
“For the time being, we are satisfied with the decision,” said Julia Mas, a lawyer for Ryad Hennouni, a 27-year-old arrested in Naples, Italy, in 2010. “We were expecting a worse sentence.”
Hennouni contended during the trial that he spent time doing Islamic studies in Zahedan, Iran, near the borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan, but did not join the fighters.

OTTAWA – Harmony Iftar meal brings Ramadan to wider community
On Friday, food became the second course, a sideshow to the main event where non-Muslims were introduced to a nightly tradition.
Now in its sixth year, Harmony Iftar is an annual Ottawa event hosted during Ramadan to invite people of all faiths to the feast in an exercise of community building and education.
