5. China bans Ramadan fast in Muslim northwest

BEIJING (AP) — Students and civil servants in China’s Muslim northwest, where Beijing is enforcing a security crackdown following deadly unrest, have been ordered to avoid taking part in traditional fasting during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
Statements posted in the past several days on websites of schools, government agencies and local party organizations in the Xinjiang region said the ban was aimed at protecting students’ wellbeing and preventing use of schools and government offices to promote religion. Statements on the websites of local party organizations said members of the officially atheist ruling party also should avoid fasting.

7. Indictment of suspect in Benghazi attack debunks the Obama tale
The Obama administration’s just-released criminal complaint against the alleged mastermind of the Benghazi terrorist attacks provides a final contradiction to its own evolving explanations for what happened that day.
The Justice Department’s indictment spells out a calculated conspiracy by Ahmed Abu Khatallah and associates to attack the U.S. diplomatic mission and CIA annex, which killed four Americans. The indictment might be viewed as a death knell for a theory that the attack resulted from a spontaneous protest against a U.S.-produced video.

8. Syria rebels will ‘lay down arms’ if no aid to fight IS
Rebels from northern and eastern Syria on Wednesday threatened to lay down their arms in a week if the country’s exiled opposition does not help them fight the jihadist Islamic State (IS).
“We, the leaders of the brigades and battalions… give the National Coalition, the (opposition) interim government, the (rebel) Supreme Military Council and all the leading bodies of the Syrian revolution a week to send reinforcements and complete aid,” the statement said.
“Should our call not be heard, we will lay down our weapons and pull out our fighters,” it added.

“Several government departments in China’s far western region of Xinjiang have banned Muslim staff from fasting during the month of Ramadan. One department website said that civil servants cannot “take part in fasting and other religious activities”.
The move comes amid tightened security in the region which has been hit by a growing number of violent attacks. Authorities blame separatist Muslim Uighurs, but Uighur leaders deny they are behind the attacks.
Activists have accused Beijing of exaggerating the threat from Uighur separatists to justify a crackdown on the Uighurs’ religious and cultural freedoms….”
I suspect some practical-minded Chinese official sat down, read the Quran, discovered the same stuff that Stephen Coughlin and Robert Spencer have been saying for years, and decided that Islam was a criminal enterprise. Correct! The Quran commands it’s followers to commit murder, rape, and theft against unbelievers, and is therefore in contravention of the laws of most countries and is therefore not a legal activity. It says to kill Jews and Christians. That’s illegal! It says to take people as slaves and rape them at will. That’s illegal! It says to emulate a caravan robber. That’s illegal, but it’s called hijacking today. Good for the Chinese. Islam is illegal…
That may be part of it but they are in a general attack on religions that doesn’t follow the Marxist party line.
Whatever their logic, any strike against the enemy is to be celebrated.

“An Israeli inventor has created a scanner that he says could change the way we shop and take care of ourselves — by reading the chemical makeup of foods, drugs and other items we use.
The tiny gadget is still limited to a few key applications. But creator Dror Sharon envisions a machine that will compile a massive collection of data that will allow users to analyze the physical matter that exists around them.
“We wanted to find applications where people have the most visceral connection to the world,” said Sharon, CEO and co-founder of Consumer Physics.
His gadget, called the SCiO, is an infrared spectrometer the size of a thumb drive. It is being marketed for three applications — food, pharmaceuticals and horticulture, or the health of plants. Simply by pointing and clicking a miniature digital wand, users can see how many calories are in a piece of cheese or determine when a tomato will reach peak ripeness.
Its name evokes the Latin verb “to know.”
These features may seem more fun than life-changing at this point. But ultimately, advocates say, the SCiO could have life-saving uses, such as identifying contaminated foods or determining whether a drug is counterfeit.
“Immediately, the major impact will be increasing the awareness of people to the material world around them, which is already an enormous effect,” said Sanford Ruhman, a professor of chemistry and expert on spectroscopy at Israel’s Hebrew University….”

The BBC is trying desperately to portray terrorism, decapitations, FGM, and the recent al Qaeda threat to air travel, as having nothing to do with Islam. At the end of the piece, the presenters look straight at the camera with that “who you gonna believe, the trustworthy BBC or your lying eyes?”.
