In other words, without a solid knowledge of Arabic, the usual approach to Islam is doomed. Citing the koran etc. makes no sense unless a large part of the non-muslim population knows Arabic. The only reason critics of Islam are believed is because people have personal bad experiences with people calling themselves muslims, but solid proof cannot be given. Another reason is that Christians are generally seen as trustworthy, because the New Testament forbids lying, and everybody can easily check this. The koran is far less transparent. Draw your own conclusions.
However, the same logic can be used vis. the Talmud and Judaism, while many Jews are extremely useful against Islam.
The best way to deal with this is to stop treating Judaism, Christianity and Islam as discrete memeplexes. They have an organic interaction with each other. However, after the fall of the openly atheist Soviet Union, going Richard Dawkins isn’t a solution either. There is no easy way out.
