CAIRO — Egypt’s top military officer warned Tuesday of the potential “collapse of the state” if political forces in the country did not reconcile, reflecting growing impatience with the country’s growing unrest.

In a speech to military cadets that was distributed as a statement, Gen. Abdul-Fattah al-Sisi, the defense minister, publicly warned Egypt’s new Islamist leaders and their opponents that “their disagreement on running the affairs of the country may lead to the collapse of the state and threatens the future of the coming generations.” As such, General Sisi suggested, the polarization of the civilian politics was becoming a concern of the military because “to affect the stability of the state institutions is a dangerous matter that harms Egyptian national security.”

  1. This may be what the Egyptian military wants, a collapse will let them take over and claim they are working to restore order.

  2. The situation in Egypt is really just an active expression of the same conflict which is, so far, passive throughout the rest of the world – that is, a global civil war between two incompatible modes of life and consciousness: those (like Islamists and Leftists) who want an all encompassing, authoritarian hive-like social structure, and those (libertarians and conservatives) who want democratic individualism and free enterprise. Personally, I prefer the latter group, since I have no desire to regress to insect consciousness and go about in a swarm.

  3. Morsi aide: Holocaust an American fabrication

A top aide to Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi said U.S. intelligence made up the Holocaust in order to wreck Germany’s public image during World War II, according to various media reports.

So what happened to the reported 6 million Jews who were killed by the Nazis? In a Fox News report, Fathi Shihab-Eddim, a senior aide to Mr. Morsi who’s authorized to appoint editors at the state-run newspapers, answered: They moved to the United States.

“The myth of the Holocaust is an industry that America invented,” he said in the Fox News report. “U.S. intelligence agencies in cooperation with their counterparts in allied nations during World War II created it to destroy the image of their opponents in Germany, and to justify war and massive destruction against military and civilian facilities of the Axis powers, and especially to hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the atomic bomb.”

This is not the first time a top Egyptian aide has made the outlandish claims.

In an exclusive interview with The Washington Times in July 2011, Ahmed Ezz El-Arab, the vice chairman of Egypt’s Wafd Party, called the Holocaust a “lie” and Jewish author Anne Frank’s firsthand account of her family’s hiding from the Nazis a “fake.”
