The Bandung High Court has added one more year to the prison term of Sebastian Joe, who was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment for the blasphemy of Islam by the Ciamis District Court in West Java.
The high court decided on Tuesday to give Sebastian a higher sentence as it used the 2008 Information and Electronic Transaction (ITE) Law as a lex specialis (special law), instead of the Criminal Code (KUHP) used by the district court, said Sebastian’s lawyer, Anang Fitriana, as quoted by tempo.co on Wednesday.

UK – 21-year-old jailed for dumping pig’s head at mosque
A 21-year-old man who dumped a pig’s head outside a mosque has been jailed for three months.
Rory Rowbottom left the animal part outside the Muslim place of worship in Pound Street, Newbury, Berkshire, last October.
Rowbottom, of Poffley Place, Thatcham, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment
Chief Inspector Lindsey Finch, of Thames Valley Police, said: “This kind of harassment will not be tolerated by the police or by the community as a whole.
“It was heartening to see the response from other communities in west Berkshire who were equally distressed and horrified that this could happen to Muslims in Newbury.”
