    That is a new one, I wouldn’t think anyone would drink from a bottle that has acid fumes coming from it.

    Maybe the woman who’s face he wanted to throw it in had got off the train at the previous stop!

    I’ll bet he’s helping police with their enquiries. Hydrochloric acid is a precursor chemical in manufacture of the drugs methamphetamine and methaqualone. It can also be used (in combination with peroxide and acetone) in the manufacture of the improvised explosive Triacetone-Triperoxide (TATP) that was used in the July 2005 terrorist bombings in London. Acid may also be used for “honour” attacks but for that it is generally the more readily available sulphuric acid used in car batteries.
    It’s not illegal to possess hydrochloric acid but storage and transport in concentrated state is regulated.
