Ottawa teen pleads not guilty in fatal stabbing outside Gatineau bar

Check out the family history on this guy. His community is acting like he is a hero. I wonder why. He murdered another boy for trivial reasons. What could possibly make his family and community rally around him like that?

OTTAWA — Sheldon O’Grady and another young man were arguing inside Gatineau’s Club Addiction Friday night, their arms gesturing wildly and their booming voices competing with the dance bar’s pulsing music.

That’s when security asked them to step outside, club owner Paul Martineau told the Citizen.

“They were not forced out — they were asked to come outside,” Martineau said. “It seemed to be resolving itself. Then more people gathered around and it fuelled the fire. It ended up as a fight out in the street.”

Martineau is still trying to comprehend why the argument ended with such violence: 18-year-old O’Grady lying fatally wounded in a pool of blood down the street from the crowded bar.

The club owner offered his “deepest sympathies” to O’Grady’s family.

“They’re 18 years old — what kind of issues can you have to start stabbing someone?” he said. “I’m a little emotionally disturbed by this, too.”

Charged in the slaying is Mourad Louati, 18, who reported to Gatineau police on Saturday with his lawyer, Joseph Addelman.

From the Ottawa Sun:

Family and friends gathered at a Gatineau courthouse Monday to support accused murderer Mourad Louati, whose brother is a convicted killer.

Louati, wearing a plaid green shirt and sneakers, glanced at more than a dozen supporters several times but said nothing during his brief appearance.

He is accused of the second-degree murder of Sheldon O’Grady, an Algonquin Thunder soccer star who police found bleeding to death on a sidewalk outside Club Addiction in Hull early Saturday morning.

  1. Families like that are hard to understand, I have met some that consider going to jail and prison to be markers of your maturity and think anyone who hasn’t gone to jail or prison is suspect.

  2. Reading the following part in the article:
“Louati’s older brother is Sabri Louati, who was convicted of manslaughter in 1995 after stabbing a youth more than 30 times at a party in the Windsor area.” makes me think that the “heroworship” for murdering thugs who stab their victims is cuuuuuuuuultural, if not multi-cuuuuuuuuuultural.

  3. Why the need to keep mentioning his brother is a convicted killer? Last I checked, murder was not heritable. He’s guilty for what he did, but he deserves a fair trial and hearing without the media prejudicing his case.
