New York Newspaper to Release More Names of Gun Permit Owners After Uproar

This is a truly horrible tactic by a newspaper. I think the publisher and editorial staff are richly deserving of similar treatment by others for what they are doing to legal and law abiding gun owners. I hope none of these people have stuff on their computers or in their homes that others might want to use for nefarious purposes. Because I can imagine their privacy will be as tenuous as they have made the privacy of these gun owners.

Following the shooting in Newtown, CT a suburban New York newspaper sparked quite an uproar among gun enthusiasts by publishing names and addresses of residents who held pistol permits. Now this same newspaper is looking to publish even more names.

More names and addresses will be added to a map that was originally posted on Christmas Eve in the Journal News from White Plains, NY. The first map listed thousands of pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland county, which are just north of New York City.

Along with an article entitled “The gun owner next door: What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood,” the map was compiled in response to the December 14 shooting deaths of 26 children and adults in Newtown, Connecticut, editors of the Gannett Corp.-owned newspaper said.

This next list will show the names of permit holders in Putnam County, New York. The county clerk told the newspaper that it is still compiling information.

  1. An old tactic from the American revolution. Publish the names and addresses of conservatives against the rebellion. Let the mob do its work at leisure.

  2. The reality of the newspaper’s actions is that sooner or later someone is going to get killed.

Of the persons holding gun permits many are retired police officers and detectives who are actively being sought by those they helped convict and incarcerate.

Others are battered women who have gone into hiding and have purchased a weapon to protect themselves from former lovers or husbands who seek either to do them serious harm or, alternatively, their deaths.

The newspaper, The Journal-News, does not seem to understand the depth of their negligence and facilitation of potential murder or assault.

On a larger scale the newspapers actions can be easily argued as part of a much larger assault on the US 2nd Amendment, the right to bear arms.

Here is Canada we have reintroduced commonsense to gun ownership by rolling back the gun registry. This is tempered by Quebec’s preservation of the gun registry database……as to whether this is applicable to just Quebeckers’ or the entirety of the database remains to be seen.

In any case the actions of the newspaper are injurious, grossly negligent, willfully harmful and transparently politically active…….they must be stopped.

I suggest that the newspaper, The Journal-News, and its parent corporation, media giant Gannet Inc., must be held to account for their zeal.

So let us begin anew and with exponentially greater enthusiasm and efficacy, the identification of all persons employed by and related to these two companies. Then let us post that information far and wide for the use and consideration of those who refuse to allow communistic agenda to threaten and intimidate decent law abiding people.

This is the website that started the identification of the Journal-News.

  3. There must be some gain for them to double down.

Earlier in the week, the newspaper’s editor and vice president CynDee Royle defended the listing:

“We knew publication of the database would be controversial, but we felt sharing as much information as we could about gun ownership in our area was important in the aftermath of the Newtown shootings.”

Given the msm narrative about the guns used by Adam Lanza – which were legally owned by his mother – and reports about his purported mental illness, this may be a fishing expedition for future exposes. For example, perhaps the editors are counting on their readers to examine their neighborhoods on that map and will reflect their concern about a neighbor who is flagged as a permit holder because that neighbor also has individual(s) with known or suspected mental illness residing in that dwelling.

Lists with political agendas generally wreak of gestapo techniques. This breach of privacy provides ample opportunity for unimagined potential harm.

Noted elsewhere, the mapped flags extend beyond the counties mentioned thus far. Zoom out to notice flags are noted in Texas and California as well, although each of those flags reflect a Westchester county address – revealing that the permit holder has multiple addresses listed.

Irony bonus: The LoHud website (paper archive list) http://tinyurl.com/d6mc5ub reveals the very same ‘CynDee Royle’ reported that “The Journal News sues White Plains over Bradley ethics report “.

A ‘document summary’ of that report states:

“The board cited privacy concerns and said its report was an internal document not subject to state Freedom of Information Law and that releasing it would violate the City Charter. “

So The Journal News understands ‘privacy concerns’ exist, but only in certain contexts, eh?

  4. The only problem is that the vast majority of people in the US don’t see anything wrong with owning firearms.

  5. via Wizbang:

“Looks like the anger directed at Cyndee Royle Lambert (her married name) has caused the woman who so proudly noted the protests as some sort of badge of honor is pulling back from the web.

Her private Facebook page is down, her Twitter account is protected, and her work Facebook account is over-run by commenters chastising her.

Funny, how that privacy issue works, isn’t it? Begs the question, if she is a NYS handgun permit holder, did/would she include a flag for her own address on that map?

  6. Following on from Bl@ckbird, no doubt someone will engineer a situation where one of these gun owners is forced to defend themselves with a weapon. On the other hand, is there a record of these leftist/fascists owning a gun?
