A proposed new handbook for Americans serving in Afghanistan warns them not to speak ill about the Taliban, advocate women’s rights or criticize pedophilia, and the general in charge is not happy with it.

The draft of the newest Army handbook seems to suggest that ignorance of Afghan culture is to blame for deadly attacks by Afghan soldiers against the coalition forces, according to The Wall Street Journal, which got a peek at the 75-page document. But its message of walking on eggshells around the locals is not going over well with U.S. Marine Gen. John Allen, the top military commander in Afghanistan.

“Gen. Allen did not author, nor does he intend to provide, a foreword,” said Col. Tom Collins, a spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan. “He does not approve of its contents.”

More than three dozen attacks by Afghan soldiers have claimed the lives of some 63 members of the U.S.-led coalition this year. The insider attacks could jeopardize plans to transfer full security control to Afghan forces in 2014.

But a claim by their own government that they’re to blame is not likely to buoy the spirits of Americans risking their lives to serve.

  1. Has anyone ever witnessed a feline covering up a pile of pachyderm dung?

    That’s what this is.

  2. Excuse me, but aren’t the Taliban the enemy? Aren’t the Taliban trying every way they can to murder and maim our soldiers who themselves are risking life and limb to try to bring some semblance of civility to that social cesspool?

  3. As a National Guard NCO of 22 years who has been deployed (Egypt & Iraq) and just recently spent 3 1/2 weeks helping to train up another unit in it’s upcomming deployment to Afghanistan last October, I must put in my two cents worth. This is precisely how dumbed down and P/C things are getting in the Armed Forces. I applaud Gen. Allen’s fortitude in speaking his mind towards these developments that degrade our readiness and break down our moral integrity. Some of these directives are quite superficial and petty, such as standing orders issued to Marines telling them to refrain from farting in front of local nationals and such, (yes, farting! It offends muslims even though they fart too since they’re human, well, sort of, lol.). Anyway, back on point. As many of you may know, there are military training sites that have mock-up 3rd World type villiages w/multi-story buildings, streets, drainage tunnels, broke-down vehicles and rubble and trash strewn about to add elements of realism for training purposes. Me and my soldier’s job was to don Afghan clothing and play the role of village locals reacting to a military convoy driving thru the town. Just to throw in an element of suprise to the scenario, I conceived an incident of domestic violence to test the soldier’s reactions with. To see how they react. One of my female soldiers played the role of my wife. She was wearing no head covering whatsoever, with her long hair down and make up on her face. This provided a realistic motive for me to beat her with a switch. When the convoy clears the corner, I dash out of the front door with switch in hand and chase her into the middle of the street, grab her hair, throw her down in the street and comence to beating on her, therefore stopping the convoy of up-armored, gun-turreted Humvees. She is loudly screaming all this time of course.

We ran this scenario 4 times with 4 different groups of convoys to test their reactions. All except the very first group did basically as they should, namely, not get involved and go around the feuding couple and continue the mission. The first group’s convoy commander, a 1st Leutenant, dismounted and approached me, nervously and respectfully asking me to stop beating my wife. I could see his discomfort level was pinging off the sonar scale as I laid into him shouting all manner of abuse (infidel, pig, etc.). I couldn’t help but crack a slight smile at him, at which he did the same (we do know each other.). Finally after several minutes of this banter, I offered to sell her to him for 50 US Dollars, at which he finally went to his vehicle and they departed the scene.

The proper response would have been to not risk an incident by getting involved and possibly escalating into a fatal encounter with both local civilian and military casualties, therefore giving the Taliban propaganda points. I agree with this approach in this particular situation despite our better nature of wanting to stop the poor woman from such vile abuse. It goes against our morals, but I have to draw the line and value my troop’s safety over that of these 7th Century throwbacks to human decency, and besides, the mission must continue. It is after all, a military operation.

What I do have problems with however, are policies driven by P/C norms and too much emphasis on trying to win these people’s hearts and minds that started with the Bush II Administration. It ain’t gonna happen. They have hated us for as long as islam has insinuated it’s evil designs upon our world 1,400 years ago. These dangerous policies has got to stop. They get soldiers killed. Nation building does not work, they still hate us in the end, and it is far, far better if they have a healthy fear of us instilled in them instead.

At the end of the training day, Me and the Leutenant were speaking of the day’s events and he told me that he gained a valuable lesson from it and his soldiers learned something that could possibly save their lives from that example. I didn’t have to tell him that his mistake that day was a good thing because it was a teachable moment, an opportunity to be used for the benefit of all. He is after all, a very good officer and appreciated the incident as an opportunity. One that is much better to learn here at home than downrange with live bullets. The feedback I received was very positive and I am honored to be able to help these people carry out their mission and hopefully I pray, get home to their families safe, sound, and alive.

Yes, many of these backward cultural traits are tribal and pre-date islam, as so many muslims are apt to tell us while explaining how islam supposedly is against such barbarity. Well, you and I both know that is a load of camel shit. Islam has had 1,400 years to clean up the situation and has been woefully deficient in that regard. In fact, we are all fully aware of the myriad number of cruel barbarities that are present in the verses of the quran and recorded in the hadiths and sira. We know of the cruel punishments prescribed by sharia law as well. They (the muslims) may be able to fool some of us with their false piety taqiyya act, but by far, not all. We must remain eternally vigilant.

    Keep your powder dry, people!

  4. The troops should be home right now doing their duty. “To defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign or domestic.”

Or were those just empty words spoken with your hand raised?

  5. Thom they weren’t when I was serving, now with a Commander in Chief that doesn’t believe in the Constitution and the rule of law I have to wonder about the conversations that are going on between officers and between NCOs. You are sworn to obey all lawful orders, but how many of the PC orders are lawful?
