A Dutch linesman officiating in his son’s youth football match has died a day after being beaten and kicked by several players during a game.
Richard Nieuwenhuizen, 41, was rushed to hospital after being punched and kicked by players from opponents Nieuw-Sloten on Sunday.
His club announced on Monday night on Twitter: ‘With great sadness we announce the death of our @Buitenboys linesman Richard Nieuwenhuizen. Our thoughts are with his family.

Nieuwenhuizen’s club, Buitenboys, said the 41-year-old linesman died on Monday night but did not announce the exact cause of death.
