Two Fat Ladies chef embroiled in race row after claiming visit to Muslim area of Leicester was ‘the most frightening experience of her life’

Clarissa Dickson Wright said visiting the city made her feel like a pariah and an outcast Clarissa Dickson Wright said visiting the city made her feel like a pariah and an outcast

Celebrity chef Clarissa Dickson Wright has caused outrage after claiming that visiting a Muslim area of Leicester was ‘the most frightening experience of her life’.

Writing in her new book, Clarissa’s England, she said visiting the city — which has a large Asian population — made her feel like a ‘pariah and an outcast in the middle of my own country.’

And when questioned on her description by a local newspaper, she fumed: ‘I’m surprised any of the people who might object could read what I wrote as it is written in English.’

But the overweight chef adds that there’s an ‘upside’ to everything — and is at least thankful for the large number of Asian restaurants in the city.

Her description of the town has caused outrage.

The Two Fat Ladies chef dedicates a chapter of Clarissa’s England: A Gamely Gallop Through the English Counties to each county in England, to discussing their culinary, cultural and historical merits.

On Leicestershire, she writes of the city’s ‘ghetto’.

She describes coming off the ring road to escape a traffic jam and becoming lost.

She wrote: ‘I found myself in an area where all the men were wearing Islamic clothing and all the women were wearing burkas and walking slightly behind them.

‘None of the men would talk to me when I tried to find out where I was and how to get out of there because I was an English female and they don’t talk to females they don’t know, while if the women could speak English they weren’t about to show it by having a word with me.

‘I have many good acquaintances and even some friends among the Muslim community, yet here I was, in the heart of a city in the middle of my own country, a complete outcast and pariah.

‘If multiculturalism works, which I have always been rather dubious of, surely it must be multicultural and not monocultural.

‘However, everything has an upside and one of the results of this is that Leicester has a very good selection of Asian restaurants.

‘I can only hope that in generations to come there will be a merging of the cultures and not the exclusion zone that is the ghetto.’

  1. ‘I can only hope that in generations to come there will be a merging of the cultures and not the exclusion zone that is the ghetto.’

    No chance. None at all.

  2. “I have many good acquaintances and even some friends among the Muslim community,”

So she still has some good things to say about Muslims, but it’s still not good enough for the PC brigade.
Mind you, anything short of bending down and kissing Muslim arse is not good enough for the PC brigade.

  3. I imagine this would be the Highfields area of the city as it is probably 85% Pakistani Muslim, 10% African and 5% white! Or St Matthews, which has now given itself over to Somalis. If she had been in the Belgrave area of Leicester, I think she may have been met with more friendliness since it is mainly Hindus and Sikhs that live there and people generally are quite friendly towards white folk – and there’s loads of nice restaurants as well. It’s a shame that she had to stumble upon the city’s unfriendly enclave of Muslims, giving her a bad impression of the entire city.

  4. I, like Clarissa, live in the country. There for the last couple of decades I have experienced and spoken out against the comfortable, self-indulgent cultural blindness of most of my neighbours and friends and I can understand why she was so surprised.
Leicester, Luton, Leeds, Bradford, Tower Hamlets and so many other British cities, towns and urban boroughs have long been nothing more than ‘occupied territories’ but those who live a predominantly rural existence, essentially in the calm of the eye of storm, have been, fearfully I think, blind at a subliminal level to the ever growing horde of seventh century barbarians who have brought their slaves, pitched their tents and built their satrapies amongst us. But, perhaps, not for too much longer. Seneca III.

  5. An economically caused societal break down is liable to change the parameters of every thing. So there is hope. 😉

  6. And so goes the continuing saga of cultural suicide of the European. In a few more decades the entire landscape, both urban and rural, will be uncharted, unknown lands.

The evident cowardice, dishonesty, evil and self-hatred of the Western liberal is downright pathological, and it is viral on both sides of the Atlantic. The left simply has too great a stranglehold upon our cultural institutions, both private and public that any change will in all likelyhood, have to be paid for in copious amounts of blood……………. Hopefully leftist and muslim blood.

  7. I live in Tower Hamlets and have for 6 years now. What the hell would you do to change it now? I always wondered what they meant by Chamberlain appeasing Hitler before WW2. Now I know.

It must be some British genetic weakness that they let things get catastrophic before they do anything.

Well my British friends just remember in 1939 you had a broad expanse of water between you and Germany called the English Channel. That body of water gave you a fighting chance and an opportunity to regroup when you had to bugger out of a place called Calais.

You have no such advantage now but, keep appeasing……

  8. We are once again about to prove the statement by Thomas Jefferson, the Tree of Liberty must at times be watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants. The time for watering the tree of liberty is once again upon us, and not enough people are aware of it to prevent the war from being a long and bloody one.

  9. Richard I know this may be bit “off topic” but my Jefferson favourite has always been this:

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.
    Thomas Jefferson, (Attributed)
    3rd president of US (1743 – 1826)

Jefferson is and will always remain my personal favourite person and his quotes seem more precedent everyday. I believe he wrote this around the time of the War of 1812, so a full 200 years ago. If anybody took his writings and compared them to the Biblical Revelations I know who would be considered a prophet in this day and age.

  10. Ghetto?

It’s not a ghetto if it’s achieved by a campagn of driving out the original inhabitants and businesses.

So no it’s not a “ghetto”.

    It’s Ethnic Cleansing.

  11. Letting those Moslems and other Asians take over cities of UK bit by bit, means, there will be less freedom, less opportunity for advancement and quality of life will only get worse. It is a sad thing to see this kind of thing happening in the West.

  12. ‘I can only hope that in generations to come there will be a merging of the cultures and not the exclusion zone that is the ghetto.’

If anything she’ll be living in the ghetto along with what’s left of the indigenous brits. So long Britain.

  13. Everyone knows what the fat lady said is true. More, much more than all this everyone knows she is entitled to her opinion even if no one else in the UK agrees with it or are in tears over it. The thing is although everyone know these basic things-many will not stand up and challenge those who think they have a God given right to choke us with our words.

Ordinary folk do not demand censorship governments do!

  14. The fat lady has sung, which means it’s over. Note part of her lyrics are, pathetically, on the plus side of the story, dedicated to the existence of a great many asian restaurants. She forgot to mention all the colorful, or not so colorful, rags.

  15. Given a choice, I would avoid Chinese, Indian and Moslem food. I don’t like Chinese or Indian or Moslem culture that turned the West into such a hostile and frightening place, for us freedom loving people who are poor and disadvantaged.
